Let's face it, in today's world, bad credit can affect everything you do from getting a job to buying any item with credit. There are many occasions when people have misused their credit and when it comes time to repay these debts, it can appear to be very difficult. However, credit card debt is not as difficult as it may seem.
The first thing to do, if you want to repair your credit, is to obtain a copy of your credit report. You can get your credit- report from one of the three main credit reporting agencies. These agencies are Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax. Each of these agencies has a website. Through these websites you can request that a copy of your credit report be sent to you at no cost to you.
In 2001 congress passed a bill which allows you one free credit- report a year. It usually takes two to three weeks by mail to receive it. Once you have looked through your credit report completely, you now have the tools you need in order to move forward and improve your credit score. A detailed list with all of the creditor's addresses and contact numbers are available as well. You may write to the creditors requesting more information about the debt or a request to work out a payment arrangement to settle. The creditor has an obligation to you to reply in a specified time period.
Many debt settlement companies do just this. If you are willing to take the time to do this, you can repair your own credit for free. It just takes perseverance and time and you can achieve a higher beacon score. Achieving a higher beacon score will in turn help you to get approved with future credit card approvals and allow you financial freedom.
