Learn to Repair Your Credit Yourself

When dealing with credit repair, if you find yourself in trouble and struggling to keep your credit score high self-help still is probably the best option for you. There are hundreds of companies out there claiming they can help you with your credit and raise your credit score. But of course this comes with a small fee. The truth is the best way to repair your credit is by your self, with a little research and determination.

Repairing your credit isn't nearly as difficult as most people think. The first step in improving your credit is too of course get a copy of your credit report and score from all three credit reporting bureaus. You are entitled to one free credit report every year. Unfortunately that credit report does not come with your score which most consumers don't realize until after ordering. So when doing your research make sure your company of choice provides your credit report and score.

After getting your credit reports you are going to want to read them thoroughly and check to make sure all the information is accurate. Most of the time errors will show up on your report. Again make sure you order all three reports because some companies only report to one or two of the bureaus which makes your credit score different for each report. Some of the errors could be due to identity theft, honest mistakes within the system, or just late reporting from your creditors.

After gathering all the data you have on the errors defined in your credit report, you should go through your records to find proof that the errors are actually true. Once you've done that it is time to contact the credit bureaus by phone and in writing. Make sure you are very aggressive but not rude when handling these matters. In your credit and your life that is being affected, this is not the time to be shy.

Now after correcting the errors in your credit report the next step is to prepare a long-term list of goals to make sure your credit score stays high. The best way to raise your credit score is to never let it drop. Once your credit score has been restored to a respectable number be sure to keep an eye on your score at least once a year if not more. Credit monitoring services are cheap and affordable considering the vast number of advantages they provide you with.
